Rock em Sock em

Here is a relatively new illustration of a redesign of the classic rock em sock em robots from my distant childhood. I wanted a mixed martial arts feel mixed in with a more contemporary robot design. One thing to notice is the square ring has been replaced with an octagon ring.

Here are some work in progress images done in ZBrush prior to any retopology work.

Well, that's it for now. See you soon.

Exaggerated Phobias

Here is an illustration I did recently on exaggerated phobias. One of the phobias listed was arachnophobia. I was going to try to do a close likeness of a funnel web spider, but the art director wanted something less lifelike and more exaggerated. So, this is the final result.

Here are a few work in progress images.

Well, that's all for now.

Children Spot Illustrations

I wanted to post a few 3D illustrations that were a little more kid friendly. Not everything I do is sci-fi or creature design.

I've seen a number of people try to simulate 3D in vector programs, so I tried to do some icon styled airplane illustrations.

I did this frog from start to finish in about 5 hours. I wanted to see how fast I could do a spot illustration from concept to completed render.

These last 4 were from a personal project I completed a few years ago.

Well, that's all for now. I hope to post some recently completed projects and work in progress shots soon.

Ubiqood dog from The Healer Book 2: The Tree of Pain (coming in early  2011)
Ubiqood dogs evolved on the planet Hirasa. Their hides are a combination of dog and reptile. They live in packs with alpha males and females. The stem-like filia on their faces end in leaf-like glomeks which are vibratory and chemotactile sensory organs used to identify and track prey. They eat a swamp plant called snake grass, incorporating its scanner scattering properties into their skin; for this reason, their pelts are worn by Hirasans seeking to evade detection.

After seeing a tutorial from Neville Page, I thought it would be helpful to draw the skeletal structure of the Ubiqood before I started modeling. Here is the sketch.

Here are some work in progress renders.

I hope to be adding more images from the Healer series soon.

Last of the really old stuff...

Here are some renders of some of the projects I did for a Gnomon Online Zbrush class I took a few years ago. Scott Spencer was the instructor. The class was very informative and I enjoyed his instruction.

Some older work...

Here is some examples of some older work I created a few years ago.

These were created for a spread on various theories of creation. Both were sculpted and render in ZBrush and retouched in Photoshop.

This illustration is based on my own interpretation of what the Arc of the Covenant may have looked like. This was modeled and rendered in Maya and retouched in Photoshop.

Here is an illustration done of a Ford Model T. It was modeled and rendered in Modo and Retouched in Photoshop.

Well, that's all for now. Hope to have more images and sketches up soon.

Well, I have finally set up a blog to show my 3D artwork. My favorite programs to work with are ZBrush, Modo, and Photoshop. I've been a professional illustrator/graphic designer for over 17 years. I also teach Maya and Zbrush for Nossi College of Art. I hope you enjoy the site!
